Maine

Maine was our last stop in the states before heading to Europe. It was the last time that we would be in one place for more than four days and it gave us the chance to finalize plans for Norway. We spent our days hiking in Acadia National Park and cooling off in the pond on the way home. The forested path to the house on Mount Desert Island welcomed us with roadside chanterelles, which we quickly turned into buttery, sage chanterelle toasts to accompany our steamed lobster our second evening there.

Time simply goes by slower in Maine and you have the time to unwind in whatever manner works for you and sink into a true relaxation. For me it was gazing out at the ocean with a glass of wine as the sun disappeared behind the neighboring island. As the sun disappeared, so did all the stress and anxiousness that had been building up inside of me.

We were lucky enough to spend time with Sam’s family during our stay, and gorge ourselves at his aunt Pam’s with more lobster, rib-eye in scape pesto, watermelon feta salad, and Pam’s bread. Just look at it.

Sam’s love for Maine is infectious; Maine has everything that brings him happiness and serenity: abundant hikes, the ocean, ponds and lakes, lobster, and memories of past trips with his family. Though it was only my second time (to his nteenth), I hope to return to this peaceful place, and Pam’s bread, as often as possible.
